Each type of wood has unique characteristics, and the species you choose will influence the overall appearance of your floor, including its color and grain pattern.
Trees in the Northern Hemisphere grow slowly, vigorously, and are strong and durable. Therefore, we primarily use spruce and pine from Swedish and Finnish forests for the middle and bottom layers. The top layer is typically European oak. We use whole logs, whose grain and pattern define the design, resulting in a floor that is uniquely beautiful and exudes natural warmth.

The natural inclusion of knots and cracks are for us features of nature that are beautiful additions to a parquet floor. Each cavity is carefully examined, cleaned and puttied to provide a high quality. Small holes may be present to further enhance the natural beauty and endless variation in our most lively products. The size and frequency of the features will vary depending on the product and range.

Cracks appear in the drying and cutting process of wood and high care is taken to minimize it.
Bark pockets are often times mistaken for cracks but are originating from when bark is partially or fully embedded in the tree and in the cutting process re-emerges.

Knot holes are openings in the wood where the knot has been partially or entirely rotten. The final appearance is of a high contrasting area to the overall tone of the wood.
Knot cracks are fissures radiating from or near the centre of a knot.

The surface structure have a wide spectrum of variation, not only between boards but also within. Subtle differences is present in the heartwood where the choice of cut, from log to parquet, will impact the final appearance of the material. Including a varied selections of grain structure in the products creates a classic appearance. There are also more noticeable structural variations within the boards that is called sapwood. This outer and younger part of the wood is often times lighter in both colour and density.
